Catching Pop Flies and Filling Food Shelves
Nothing brings a community together like America’s favorite pastime! This past Saturday, June 10, several Dublin Food Pantry board members were excited to catch a few games while collecting food and donations throughout the day at the Miracle League Field!
Miracle League Field
Miracle League of Central Ohio was formed in 2005 to raise funds to build a unique baseball field for athletes with mental and physical challenges in the Central Ohio area. The City of Dublin donated the land required for Central Ohio’s field, which opened on August 28, 2005.
Located at Darree Fields Park on Cosgray Road in Dublin, Ohio, the Miracle League field is fully accessible to children and adults with disabilities. The custom-designed venue includes many features, including a cushioned, synthetic surface with base paths, bases, batters’ box, pitcher’s mound, and home plate painted on the surface. This design eliminates barriers for children who are visually impaired, wheelchair- or walker-restricted, or who use any type of mobile device.
A Community of Giving
In addition to providing an accessible space to play ball, the Miracle League teaches volunteers of all ages the value of giving back to others and their community. That lesson was evident in the number of donations the Dublin Food Pantry board members collected that day! Barb Anderson, Casey Liddy, John Landers, Paul Maynard, Kevin Langen, Eric Bosserman, and Rick Guzak collected over 800 pounds of food and household items and $500 in monetary donations!
Dublin Food Pantry sees time and time again the power of the community coming together to support each other. We are so grateful to the Miracle League of Central Ohio for inviting us to participate in the spirit of giving that is felt throughout the field, and excited to return next year!
