Keeping Kids Fed During Spring Break | March Newsletter

Dear Friends of the Dublin Food Pantry,

Spring is a time of renewal, hope, and new beginnings. After a long winter, many families look forward to warmer days and time together during spring break.

For children and families experiencing food insecurity, school breaks can bring added anxiety. In our community, approximately 3,700 students enrolled in Dublin City Schools are eligible for the free and reduced price breakfast and lunch program. We do not often think that a school break could cause a crisis, but as spring break approaches, children who rely on school meals will be without that nutritional support for nine full days.

In response, the Dublin Food Pantry partners with Dublin City Schools and other community organizations to help keep children fed. In addition to our regular Pantry shopping hours, we offer monthly Pop-Up Pantries for school families, provide healthy snacks for student athletes experiencing food insecurity at three Dublin schools, and coordinate food drops with community partners. Today, 23% of students in Dublin City Schools are considered economically disadvantaged, and hunger can impact their academic performance, athletic participation, and overall well-being.

We are continually heartened by the generosity of this community. Last year, the Pantry served 10,487 households, including 3,482 children. That impact would not be possible without the care and compassion of neighbors like you.

It is especially encouraging to see the spirit of giving being passed on to the next generation. Young people across our community are stepping up to support their peers and neighbors, reminding us what a caring community we have here in Dublin.

With gratitude,

Generations of Giving

Volunteering at the Dublin Food Pantry is often a family effort, and we love seeing generations give back together.

Barb and Mollie

Barb Anderson is a Dublin Food Pantry Board Member, Lead Volunteer, and Chair of the Bounty at Bridge Park Committee. Recently, Barb volunteered at the Pantry alongside her daughter Mollie, who was visiting from Arlington, Virginia.

Kristen and Ben

Kristen Lam is a longtime Dublin Food Pantry volunteer and a member of both the Development Committee and the Bounty at Bridge Park Committee. While home from college on break, her son Ben joined her at the Pantry to help serve the community.

Seeing families volunteer together is a powerful reminder that the spirit of giving continues to grow from one generation to the next.

Kids Making an Impact

Hundreds of young people recently came together to support families served by the Dublin Food Pantry through an inspiring project organized by Seeds of Caring.

A total of 769 kids participated, collecting 1,057 dental kits that will help provide essential hygiene items for our clients. Projects like this show how young people can make a meaningful difference in their community.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.

Neighbors Supporting Neighbors

The Neighborhood FoodShare program continues to bring our community together to support families served by the Dublin Food Pantry.

Recently, residents of the Woods of Indian Run organized another collection and gathered 245 pounds of food and personal care items. Combined with their first collection, this neighborhood has donated an incredible 695 pounds of essentials to help support families in our community.

We are grateful to the Woods of Indian Run team for coming together to make a meaningful impact for their neighbors!
