Volunteer Spotlight – Bev Ross

Initially looking for a way to get more involved in the community, Bev Ross began volunteering for Dublin Food Pantry after hearing from a friend at church that there was a need for food transport drivers. Fast forward to 14 years later, Bev now serves as Transport Director having been promoted after nine years of driving on a weekly basis.

“We have about 20 Drivers, and we do about 20 donation pickups every week,” Bev says. “We collect perishable foods like produce, meat, bakery goods, and dairy products from area stores including Trader Joes, multiple Kroger and Giant Eagle locations, Whole Foods, Aldi, and Meijer as well as local donation sites like the Dublin Rec Center.”

In her volunteer work, Bev finds it meaningful to be involved in the food distribution process and to be able to work with DFP’s many volunteers. “We have great, supportive leadership and wonderful volunteers,” she says. “Everyone is reliable, helpful, kind, and fun to work with.”

Bev also shared her excitement for the future of the pantry, commenting, “It’s exciting to see even greater community awareness and support for the Pantry. The new location will be designed to better serve more people, and be a central place to meet additional needs.”

We recently had the opportunity to talk with Bev Ross about some of her favorite things outside of volunteering.

Tell us about your family.

My husband Jeff and I have three children, all married, 4 grandchildren, and a 5th grandbaby due in January. Our sons and their families live in Dublin and Hilliard and our daughter and her family live near Athens, Ohio.

How do you like to spend your time away from your volunteer work?

I love being with my family. We’ve been so happy to be part of the childcare rotation for all of our grandchildren. I like to bike, walk, or exercise most days. Jeff and I like to travel, and–lucky for me–he’s a great trip planner.

Favorite restaurant/park/thing to do in Dublin

I like to bike at Glacier Ridge, walk any of the bike paths, and explore the playgrounds with my grandchildren. My favorite restaurant is almost anyone of the restaurants in Bridge Park.
