Celebrating Dublin, Caring for Our Neighbors
As July unfolds into August and the city comes alive with the excitement of the Dublin Irish Festival, we’re reminded once again why we love this place we call home. Dublin’s spirit of community, culture, and connection is on full display—an energy that uplifts us all.
But even amidst the music, laughter, and celebration, we gently ask our neighbors to remember: not everyone is celebrating this weekend. Hunger doesn’t take a holiday. In fact, for many families in our community, summer can be the most difficult time of year. That’s why we’re especially grateful that once again the Dublin Food Pantry has been named the Sunday beneficiary of the Dublin Irish Festival.
All attendees who bring a canned good or monetary donation for the Dublin Food Pantry on Sunday will be supporting our mission directly, and your entry fee will be waived at the gates.
Facing a Season of Uncertainty
As shared in last month’s message, we’re beginning to feel the deep ripple effects of both state and federal budget cuts. The recently passed budgets have confirmed our concerns: local food pantries like ours—and the people we serve—are bracing for serious challenges.
Recently, we were notified that the Mid-Ohio Food Collective will pause “Shop Thrus” through August, which limits our access to critical fresh foods like produce and dairy. This pause landed just as school was let out—when many children miss out on regular meals. Additionally, a letter from Mid-Ohio on July 7 confirmed that these budget reductions will further strain access to shelf-stable items like pasta, canned goods, and pantry staples. Items such as milk, eggs, and meat will become even less consistent.
These setbacks come before the full impact of reductions to SNAP and Medicaid begin. In Franklin County alone, over 162,000 people depend on SNAP—many of whom turn to our pantry in times of crisis, using our services four times a year on average. With growing demand and shrinking support, this may become the most daunting chapter in our almost 50-year history.
The Community Response: A Bright Light
What has lifted our spirits is the immediate and heartfelt response from you—our volunteers, donors, and partners. In the face of adversity, you’ve stepped up. From financial gifts to fresh produce drives, your kindness fuels our work and nourishes our neighbors. We’ll be leaning more than ever on our generous community in the weeks ahead. Please watch our website and social media for real-time donation needs.
As we look ahead to our 50th anniversary in 2026, we carry forward a legacy built on compassion, resilience, and community action. We are proud of the ground we’ve covered—and hopeful about the road ahead.
We’ll continue to tell our story and to find creative ways to source nutritious food and keep our shelves stocked. In nearly five decades, we’ve always risen to meet the moment—together. And together, we will again.
